I'm Listening To...

Just for kicks, I added a new left menu item under "Listening." Using the snappy AppleScript utility Kung-Tunes for OS X, I am publishing every two minutes what mp3 is currently playing in iTunes on my G4 workstation. The utility is still young, and the author is promising more features (like the needed inclusion of search string link tags for the artist name), but for now it's kind of fun to mess around with.

i just started using a similar app called iTunesTrackInfo, availble from http://www.kung-foo.tv/ittimain.html

the file it uploads is fully customizable (using tokens like ^a ^t ^l etc) and it can upload when a track changes instead of a set timed interval. it's worth checking out.

I tried iTunesTrackInfo, but it wasn't updating properly for me. TuneCam seems much better.

Is there a similary web app like this for Windows? I would like to do something like this. I'll check back here or please email me if you know of one. Thanks! By the way, I like your site.

Casey: There are quite a few winamp pluging that do this, you would have to do a search on winamp.com to find one.

I love iTunesTrackInfo (Chinese restaurant name and all) and the developer is VERY open to fixes and changes. Worthy!

Tarsh, hello? I search Winamp plugins for "ftp", and all I came up with was ONE application that seems awful (judging from the hateful review it got). Where are the "quite few" winamp plugins you are talking about, "than can be found via winamp.com"?

Oops. I forgot the URL for that silly app. It's: http://winamp.com/plugins/detail.jhtml?componentId=83013

I found a few more by searching for "publish": one (over 2k downloads, more features), ). Going to try them but I'd appreciate other suggestions.

Oh crap. Forgot to close my tag. Sorry.

I like using SnapperHead, which also reports what iTune you're listening to in OS X (or OS 9)....

(chuckle) According to Matt, dosomething has the "worst interface and interaction design ever".

Matt's right! I got it to work once and then never again. Piece. Of. Crap.

Just in case anyone is still looking, I'll plug my Winamp plug-in. It's called CurrentlyHearing (find it at http://www.maniacalrage.net/index.php?PG=6). I've gotten nothing but compliments on its simplicity and the fact that it works perfectly. Check it out.
