Trading Spaces Remix
I became so enraged by an episode of Trading Spaces yesterday that I decided to take matters into my own hands. Yes, I know, you don't have to tell me. I just hate to see a good design go unfinished.

I agree, Todd. While I generally don't care for Hildi's work (not that it isn't good - just WAY not my taste, as a general rule), I thought the homeowner's friend was (aside from being very prissy) wrong to compromise the design. Nice job!

Wow, I didn't realize that it would look that good!! They don't know what they are missing!

Now, hang on here guys. Are you for real? That orange "DYED" carpet would have looked hideous. There is no way she could have made that look good. And orange carpet? Come on! I think anyone who comprimises her designs, is doing a VERY good thing. Still having nightmares about orange chairs with fur. UGH!

Is it just me, or is this Cruella de Vil's guest bedroom? :)

Okay so if you guys had to pick one designer from TS to do a room in your house who would it be?
(I think Vern for me)

No one's mentioned that the designer wouldn't listen to the "client". Now sure this is a slightly different situation but fighting with your clients, like a certain hard-to-work-with designer Douglas Wilson, is NOT what a designer does. And yes an orange rug would be horrible. But it all looks red in the photo.

Wouldn't p'shopping a Frank-designed room be more of a challenge?

Oh Hildi, she has the crazy ideas. I don't go for her look at all. But it does finish it up to do the floor. Did you see the show where she spray painted some perfectly ok couch and then left it out in the overnight rain? yikes.
Me, I would let Vern do anything he wants with any room in my house. I would love to have either one of the carpenters at my house for the weekend though. Man they get a lot done.

I won't argue about Hildy being a little crazy, but Genevieve is the craziest. I distinctly remember an episode where she installed moss on the wall to give the room a "tropical" feel. I would have cried.
Oh, and I agree on the Vern claims. He's the man.

Oh boy, I don't mean to burst your bubble (mine was burst and I was a little disappointed) Gregory, but Ty and Amy Wynne have a team of people who help them (at least 2 or 3 people). Also, the whole production team helps paint. Oh, and they have a master seamster (yes, a guy) who does all the sewing.
If it makes you feel any better the production team admits it takes an hour to set up one shot so a lot of time that could be used on the rooms is wasted setting up shots. Hence the reason they chip in.

I would choose (in this order) Frank, Vern, Lori. They all seem to come up with something decent.
Genevieve may have put moss on the walls, but in that same episode Hilda left a bedroom floor without carpet or anything - just the concrete sub-floor....
As far as craziest, Des from the first season takes it for me. She was a total wacko.

Vern is the man! Excellent solutions every single time. No?...

I'd fight to the death for Vern..
Doug I have issues with because he has the most attitude for the least amount of results. Hilda is 50/50 for me... What? A black room with a concrete subfloor? Mhmm. I'm not always a fan of Genevieve's designs, but she'd be fun to work with. Laurie comes up with some great stuff, but a little too traditional for me. And Frank's great, as long as he doesn't insist on hand-painting vines on EVERYTHING.
Oh, I haven't put *too* much thought into this show or anything...no... :)

I was a server at a Fusebox in Atlanta (now defunct) a few years ago. Vern Yip was the architect/designer of the restaurant's interior, and I got the chance to speak to him doing one of his routine visits. He graduated from our own Ga Tech's architecture program. Great guy, I tell you. As an aside, arriving to work one afternoon, I walked in on a Playboy photo shoot at the restaurant. Now that's good design!

Both of the women in this episode were a real pain in the ass. Fledgling designers with noses upturned who thought they knew everything. *sigh*
Vern (and Frank) rule...

While I love fur and the whole general design, I think orange would
have looked hideous for anyone to live with! As the show and your photo looks,
it appears "red" and looks ok with the white. Why
she couldn't have done the walls and curtains in a beige or natural wood combination
to match the carpet and then pop it with color like leopard fur instead is beyond me???

Moss wall, concrete sub-flooring, hypothetically orange dyed carpet -- none of this beats Doug for worst place. The one where he makes the homeowner cry. Not tears of joy. That depressed me.
